A big quilt hangs on a wooden rod at the edge of the deck, with nine empty squares. Each time a friend hops, patterned patches pop in: a star, then stripes and triangles, then diamonds and circles, and so on. At the end all three hop together, a wave ripples across the quilt, and a golden stitched border sews itself all the way around with twinkling stars in the corners.
